On June 9, 2017, Assembly Bill 52 was signed into law, allowing for the regulation of dissolved mineral exploration boreholes and wells.  The Statute also mandated the joint development of regulations between the Nevada Division of Water Resources, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, and the Nevada Division of Minerals.  The statute goes into effect on January 1, 2018, and the draft regulations are in the process of being approved.  The statute and regulation outlines the procedure for the drilling and operation of dissolved mineral resource exploration boreholes and wells.  The primary change will be the requirement of a permit from the Nevada Division of Minerals to drill and operate a dissolved mineral resource exploration well. The purpose of this workshop is to review the effect of the statute and draft regulations from the perspective of each of the three regulatory agencies.

Rich Perry, Administrator, State of Nevada Commission on Mineral Resources, Division of Minerals, will present the new regulations developed for dissolved mineral exploration projects for the Division of Minerals.

Tim Wilson, P.E.,  Manager, Well Drilling and Adjudications, Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources, will discuss how the new regulations will affect the existing well drilling regulations.

Connor Newman, Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Mining Regulations and Reclamation, will discuss the requirements that a dissolved mineral exploration project must meet with the Bureau of Mining Regulations and Reclamation.

Tom Gray, RG, Geologist/Environmental Scientist/Closure Branch Supervisor, Nevada Division of Envirornmental Protection-Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation
