Nevada Water Resources Association

Mission and Purpose

The Nevada Water Resources Association’s (NWRA) mission is to provide education, training, and networking opportunities for those interested in understanding, developing, conserving and protecting Nevada’s water resources. Our mission is to expand awareness of water issues throughout the state.

NWRA hosts an annual conference where water professionals throughout the state convene to discuss current and ongoing statewide water issues ranging from integrated watershed management, groundwater quality and management, southern Nevada regional water supply issues, and water reuse in both northern and southern Nevada. Panel discussions as well as technical sessions are held to discuss these issues.

NWRA also hosts a variety of workshops covering a broad range of topics, from Beginning Water Rights in Nevada, Advanced Water Rights in Nevada, Surface Water Methods and Analyses, Natural Recharge, Well Construction Methods, and Introduction to Groundwater and Wells. Qualified instructors teach all of the courses, and professional development hours are available to Nevada registered engineers and land surveyors. NWRA co-sponsors the Well Construction Methods and the Introduction to Groundwater and Wells seminars with the American Water Works Association (AWWA). These seminars are held in Nevada as well as California.

NWRA has a Board of Trustees, which consists of sixteen elected NWRA members. Each District elects four members. Three of the elected members are Directors who have voting rights. The fourth elected member is an alternate who has voting rights only when a regular member of the same district is absent. The State Engineer serves as an ex officio member.

The Districts are broken down as follows:

District 1 - Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda counties

District 2 – Mineral, Lyon, Douglas, Carson City, Storey, and Churchill counties

District 3 – Lander, Eureka, Elko, and White Pine counties

District 4 – Humboldt, Pershing and Washoe counties
