Water quality in Nevada is, in general, relatively good.  However, continued population growth, industry, agriculture and urbanization, climate change, drought and flooding all contribute to the potential deterioration in the quality of our surface and groundwater resources.  In addition, as new water resources are being sought, water resources that may have once been considered contaminated by natural minerals may need to be utilized.  This workshop is designed to discuss pressing and future water quality issues that result from human impacts and natural evolution of water in Nevada.

  • Harmful algal blooms
  • Urbanization and water quality
  • Industry and water quality
  • Irrigation return-flow impacts on water quality
  • Impacts of irrigation with treated watewater
  • Salinization of water resources
  • Natural and anthropomorphic contributions of trace metals adn mercury and thier impact on water resources
  • Impacts of nutrients on water resources
  • Organic contaminant impacts on surface and groundwater
  • Effects of water quality on aquatic and terrestrial wildlife
  • Effectrs of water qulaity on human health
  • Mitigation of harmful impacts to water qulaity
  • Low cost or practical methods for reducing contamination
