Community Benefit Agreements: Engaging Communities and Industries for Mutual Benefits Workshop

Many of Nevada counties and communities are facing industry development pressures, with some struggling to address the confluence of social, economic, environmental, and natural resource impacts. When host communities face limited capacity to address these complex issues, industry development can unintentionally become a burden rather than a benefit.

Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) have emerged as a meaningful tool for community planning, local economic development, and conservation strategies. These co-created agreements, between project developers and local jurisdictions, are being used across the nation to foster mutual sustainability and resilience across the lifetime of projects.

Join us as we learn about Community Benefit Agreements, including what they are (and what they aren’t), their strengths and pitfalls, and considerations for negotiation, monitoring, and enforcement. We will explore examples of real-world contract agreements and work together to create sample provisions you might incorporate into a Community Benefit Agreement of your own.

This collaboration between NWRA, NACO, and UNR Extension brings together conservation experts and county leaders, creating powerful synergy to collectively address some of Nevada’s complex interdisciplinary problems. Together we will expand our knowledge and our network.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be received in writing and sent to NWRA via fax to 775-473-5473, mailed to PO Box 8064, Reno, NV 89507, or e-mailed to admin@nvwra.org.  Cancellations received within 7 days of the start of the event will not be refunded, however substitutions are welcome.  All other cancellation requests will receive a refund minus a 25% administrative fee.  If you have purchased the registration with a credit card, the convenience fee is non-refundable.
